Introducing the Virtual Access Point!

June 29, 2005 - RealNet Solutions’ breakthrough Virtual Access Point (AP) technology allows wireless infrastructure equipment makers to leapfrog their competitors by delivering multiple services from a single physical device. In an office environment, a single Real-AP/Bridge enabled device can provide simultaneous access to up to 16 wireless domains, each with its own distinct Service Set Identifier (SSID) and independently configurable security policies (for example, open access to guests and secure access to employees). In a public hotspot environment, multiple service providers can share the same physical infrastructure, again resulting in substantial cost savings. Each Virtual AP appears to wireless stations as an independent infrastructure device, even though only one physical AP is present. Our capabilities include:

> Partitioning of a single physical AP into up to 16 Virtual APs
> Automatic SSID assignment for each Virtual PA, derived from the MAC address of the physical radio interface
> Allocation of a unique VLAN to each Virtual AP
> Isolation of all unicast and multicast traffic within the Virtual AP domain
> Unique encryption and authentication settings for each Virtual AP
> Flexibility of applying bridging or routing to each Virtual AP
